I’d like to buy a vowel . . .

You know how you spend the first few weeks getting to know the kids and their preferences? Well, I make it a point to make sure they know what I love too…

Starbucks
Skittles &
Vowels.

Seriously, Pete the Cat loves his shoes. I love vowels, and my kids know it! On the first day of school I tell them I love candy, my family, church, and vowels.  And like magic, because I love the vowels, they love the vowels too!

As a matter of fact, I even have a vowel freebie for you too! In class, we become vowel addicts.  We do vowel mystery pictures and we search for the vowels in CVC words. We highlight using our crayons.

Vowel Recognition is a key Common Core Reading Foundation Skill. Students search for vowels in mystery pictures and within word context. Engaging, fun, and rigorous!

There are 4 differentiated Mystery Pictures (easy version shown), 4 Vowel Hunts in context, and CVC fill in the vowel (not shown).

Then we do name art…. Oh how I love this!!!!

Name Art inspided by Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Unit also includes vowel hunts and mystery pictures. This is PERFECT for first grade or end of kinder, and will get the students instantly identifying the vowels

Students color their name before they cut the squares they need. They use yellow and pink crayons on the corresponding paper just to help them to not get overwhelmed. If you teach first grade, you will love, love, love this. Your students will become vowel lovers and this will help them become reading rock stars.

Use the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to introduce the vowels and make a fun bulletin board. Unit also includes vowel searches and mystery pictures. This is PERFECT for first grade or end of kinder.     Use the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to introduce the vowels and create a smart looking bulletin board

I found these border holders at Target.
I was hoping they were only a $1,
but even at $3 this was a steal.
You will need three and 1 roll of pretty tape ($1.50)

Cut off black strips.

I used clear tape just to hold the 3 charts together.

Then use pretty tape to go across the back.
You could sew them together.
I own a sewing machine, but I don’t want to sew them.
I like tape, especially pretty tape.
